Were holiness left without full satisfaction,
If God had not judged my willful rebellion,
Lost! Lost I would be, without hope and alone;
The justice of God I will joyfully own
For Christ stepped between holy anger and me
Through divine retribution, I am whole! I am free!
When He screamed His desertion on the hell of the cross
The fullness of God knew the fullness of loss.
In the wretched defilement of death and of sin
When the grave wrapped around Him and locked Him within
God wept in relief; I could rise and draw near
He could look upon me, I could come without fear.
My Judge and my Saviour; resurrected, my King
With reckless abandon, I willingly bring
Everything that I am, everything I will be
To carry my cross, love as You have loved me.
I praise You for judgment! I praise You for grace;
For the sacrifice made that I might look on Your face!
