So now what??

I hope I haven't heard of so many kidnappings, forced marriages/conversions, tortures and executions that I've become jaded. I don't think I have. If anything, I'm becoming weary. At the same time, I'm more motivated than ever to speak up on behalf of those who have no voice.

*This week's Persecution and Prayer Alert will highlight the kidnapping of a fourteen-year-old girl, Sarah. She's just two years younger than my youngest, and just as interested in reading; she was last seen at a bookstore. When her Daddy called police to file a missing person's report, the only response his heart heard was that he would never see his girl again. The message came from her kidnappers, not the police, but in his frame of mind, I wonder if he feels that Heaven has fallen silent. The claim is that she's become Muslim of her own accord. That's nothing new. Even if that is the case, she's a minor. Her father said "I want my child back in my arms, even if she became a Muslim."

I'm livid. I ache. I feel hopeless. What in the world can I do for a girl that by all appearances just wanted to find a good book to read? Instead, she becomes yet another story on the annuls of history; another story of bitter loss of innocence and security. How do we go about comforting the parents who have lost their girl? Is there anything we can say? Anything we can do?

We can write the Egyptian Embassy. We can raise awareness; share this on social networks. We can pray. That's not cliché. Let me repeat that; we can pray, and praying is doing something. Prayer is how God has chosen to partner with us to move heaven and earth. Please, if you do nothing else, pray! Enough kidnappings!
