Are we done yet? (Sorry, Miley, I'll shut up after this)

"Excuse me. Pardon me. Excuse me. Oh, I'm sorry, sir, did I step on your toes? Oh, pardon me, ma'am."

I'm elbowing my way through the bellowing crowd to whisper above the cacophony. I haven't watched Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" video, nor will I. It's not the kind of entertainment I choose. I do, however, have a few thoughts on the matter.

"Never watch this garbage!" So say the many online masters of wisdom. I can't begin to count the Facebook posts, blogs and "news" articles about how terrible the video is. They prove their point by providing at least a link to the video, if not an embedded copy of the video. Am I the only one that sees something at least mildly hypocritical about this? If you don't want your teens watching it and you think they might, discuss it with them.

God loves her; He loves Lady Gaga, Madonna, the KISS band members and all the other artists that have caused us Christians to self righteously gasp. He even loves that neighbour with the vicious dog, the guy who wears sunglasses to hide his drug ravaged eyes, the people that smashed beer bottles all over our front lawn and that unwed mommy who's doing her best to raise her kid on her own. Ok, here's the kicker. He even loves you and me and He knows the skeletons we hide better than either of us.

She's not the only one involved in the video. She made some choices. I don't like them. I don't like the choices of all of the other people who helped make the music video. (I've heard enough descriptions to convince me of this.) Maybe you made the choice to watch the video. Yeah, I don't like that choice, either; but it was your choice. I think I'm obligated to insanely love every individual who makes choices I didn't like. (See the previous paragraph.)

Bad press is better than no press. Controversy and criticism are some of the best advertisements out there. Congratulations! We've done it! We've made her video a success.

Now it's time to just be quiet.
